The Low Block

Site Build It!

In American TaeKwonDo, the Low Block is one of the most basic of karate moves. It is used to defend against a kick directed to your mid-section, usually a Front Kick.

As you will see in the Video, when executing the Low Block, the blocking arm is always the Top Arm as you cross your arms in preparation of the technique. The reason behind the crossing of the arms before the block is to gain maximum power and body stability. This is called REACTION FORCE in TaeKwonDo.

As the blocking arm comes down toward your knee in the Front Stance (feet shoulder width apart, front leg bent, back leg straight), you should snap your hips for extra power as the block is executed. Watch the video for a demonstration of this.

Look carefully as I snap my hips and execute at the same time for maximum power.

Did you notice the elegant blue banner above?

You may not know TaeKwonDo as I do but we all have something to share. Many times we take for granted all the knowledge we have acquired.

If you are an "old timer" like me, you have a vast amount of information and stories just waiting to be read by those that have only hear about the "Good Ole Days."

If you are a youngster, you too have a lot to teach people from past generations. I invite you to click on that banner and watch the video and decide what you would like to share.

Or, just click here to see how its done.
