Becoming a Black Belt Means OverComing YourSelf!
I really had to work and work hard to overcome my fears. I just made sure that I knew that I knew that I KNEW what I was doing. I made it through all the practices, injuries, push-ups, and became a Black Belt Instructor at a very young age. Now, as a TaeKwonDo Instructor of many years, If there is one thing that I can teach you, its not necessarily how to perfect your TaeKwonDo techniques or tweek your form to perfection. Its how to know your enemies. I don't mean any bullies or thugs. I mean self-doubt, indecision, past events, and most of all, TIME. These are the true enemies. If you ever start letting these creep into your mind, you will be doomed to a life of "What if's", "I Should of's", and "If I'd only's". Regret will be at every turn and Your Time for becoming a Black Belt, Ph.D., M.D., or whatever will always be "Some Day" away. Believe in yourself, do your best, be YOUR own person according to the gifts God has given you. You are the only person you should ever truly compete with whether it be in TaeKwonDo, Weightlifting, or anything else. And, only compare your life to the model God's Word has laid out for all of us.
I am giving you a peek at myself when I was younger. When I thought I may not have had what it took to walk the path to becoming a Black Belt. You might see some similarities. I'll give you a peek at the Online Course that can lead you down this Black Belt Path in a moment.
This is a picture of me doing one-step spars as a Yellow Belt, one stripe--maybe just like you.
This one is just a few weeks later. We went to the Grand National Tournament in Little Rock, AR. Bill Clinton was Governor and Master H. U. Lee actually dressed him in a DoBok and he broke a couple of boards!
Anyway, I had to fight and beat 18 out of 43 people in my division to get this first place trophy. Even though I was shy, no one at the tournament knew that but me. I focused on being the best and the fact that I wanted that big trophy.
This one is me as a Blue Belt at age 16.
Kicks are getting a lot higher and my technique was improving. I practiced all the time.
